Mumbai, April 29: The Bombay Andhra Mahasabha & Gymkhana is organising a mega millennium musical nite by noted playback singer Dr S P Balasubrahmanyam on May 12 at Shanmukhanada Hall. The event will celebrate the organisation’s eighth decade in Mumbai. It has been catering to the cultural and social activities of the Telugu-speaking populace in Mumbai. The musical nite will also mark the beginning of building a state-of-the-art auditorium in the Mahasabha’s premises at Dadar.
Addressing newspersons today, K Subba Rao, President of the Mahasabha said that the organisation is embarking on a noble idea of setting up a unique first-of-its-kind auditorium as it has emerged as a dire need of the city.
The project, expected to cost around Rs 10 crore is planned in a unique way as the land height will be raised by 35 feet to cover the existing buildings in the premises. The auditorium is expected to come up in a swanky 2,500 sq metre area, where the Mahasabha already has 1,900 sq metres in possession and plans to acquire the rest in the near future. Though there are no concrete plans finalised on fund raising, he informed that the Union Ministry has already sanctioned Rs 30 lakhs for this project.
