And the memorial gets a band

An Army band will play at the Chandigarh War Memorial, which was dedicated to the nation by President APJ Abdul Kalam on August 17. 8220;First, we will arrange the band on one weekend a month but will later have it every weekend depending on the response,8221; said GOC-in-C, Western Command, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh.

The War Memorial, built by a citizens8217; initiative led by The Indian Express, containing names of about 8,500 post-Independence martyrs, is now on the city8217;s tourist map. Vivek Atray, Director of Tourism, says it will be put on the UT Administration8217;s website.
