West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi 8212; who met a Gorkha Janmukti Morcha delegation on Wednesday during his trip to Darjeeling, broke his silence on the subject on Friday.

Following Wednesday8217;s meeting with the GJM, Gandhi had not issued any statement. Sources in Raj Bhavan said the Governor8217;s response that day was 8220;let the GJM do the talking8221;.

But during his return journey to Kolkata, Gandhi told the media in Siliguri that he hoped that the tripartite talks would 8220;move forward smoothly8221;.

8220;The main thing is that a solution should be reached at the earliest possible. The state government, the Centre and the GJM are engaged in the talks. Everyone should wish the talks are successful and that peace prevails,8221; Gandhi said.

In Kolkata, the Siliguri-based Minister for Urban Development Ashok Bhattacharya said the only way forward is through talks.

8220;The tripartite discussion alone can solve the problem. We want them the GJM to withdraw the agitation. Until and unless they do so, the problem will not be solved,8221; Bhattacharya said.
