AMRITSAR, Dec 10: Amritsar today became the first district headquarter to be connected to Internet through National Informatics Centre.

DC Narinderjit Singh inaugurated the Internet facility at district computer centre in administrative complex here. He said all district officers could avail the facility of free e-mail account.

Speaking on the occasion, he said this facility would provide high speed communication. He said NIC had high speed international gateways for Internet access at more than 5 mbps speed.

Navneet Kakreja, Technical Director, NIC, Punjab, Baljinder Luthra, District Informatics Officer, NIC Amritsar and other NIC officers were also present.
