SHANGHAI, April 18: On a day of mixed fortunes, Amritinder Singh was the only Indian among the five in fray to card a sub par third round while a daring birdie on the last gave American Aaron Meeks the lead on the penultimate day of the $ 400,000 Volvo China Open golf here today.
No Indian could improve his position on the leaderboard and slipped further down their yesterday’s standing.
Amritinder returned one under par 71 to total 209 (71,67,71) and came down to 17th position from overnight 13th.
Arjun Singh shot a par 72 round for a three round total of 211 and slipped from 17th to 29th slot. Classic Indian Open winner Firoz Ali, after yesterday’s poor display, gave a better account of himself today hitting a par 72 but with a total of 216 (69,75,72) lost four places as he moved from 63rd to joint 67th position. Vivek Bhandari shot his second successive over par round with two over par 74 today to aggregate 218 (71,73,74) and was lying at joint 71st place. Yesterday he was at 63rd position.
Jeevgoes eight over
CANNES: Jeev Milkha Singh, one of the joint leaders after the first round of four under 67, shot a poor 79 in the third and is now lying joint 62nd from the 66 players who made the cut. Jeev had four bogeys on the front nine and another four on the back nine to make it eight over 79 and with his first two rounds of 67 and 74, he is now seven over at 220.
Daniel Chopra the Indian-born Swede, had a round with two `quads’ — that is four over for a single hole. On the par four seventh he shot an eight and then on the par five 18th he shot a nine for a round of 77. That left him at 219 and at the 61st place is just ahead of Jeev.
