
India8217;s first Discovery Park, a state-of-the-art research and development centre, will be established in Amethi, the constituency of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Information Technology RGIIT campus at Tikarmafi in the district will house the Rs 100-crore park spread over 60 acres of land and built with the assistance of the
Human Resource Development Ministry.
RGIIT director M D Tiwari said it would have 10 to 12 modern and well-equipped centres conducting interdisciplinary research in areas like biotechnology, nanotechnology, micro-engineering and information technology. He said the centre would be comparable to the highly-regarded Discovery Park of Purdue University in the US.
Earlier, speaking at a seminar on the use of technology in rural development on the 62nd birth anniversary of former Prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, he said eight village resource centres had already been developed in the district and had been linked with the Indian Space Research Organisation.
These centres would soon be inaugurated by the local MP and made open to public. Deputy director of the National Informatics Centre, M Mony said NIC would open a centre in Amethi soon to help the rural folk.
