CHANDIGARH, Jan 1: The Army Medical Corps AMC celebrated its 235th anniversary at Western Command Chandimandir, near here, today.

To mark the occasion a solemn wreath laying ceremony was held at Veer Smriti war memorial to pay homage to the AMC personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Maj Gen R.P. Arora, Deputy Director Medical Services, Western Command and Maj Gen Virendra Singh, Commandant, Command Hospital, Chandimandir paid floral tributes at the memorial. A number of serving and retired officers and jawans also participated in the memorial service.

Addressing a special sainik sammelan, Maj Gen Virendra Singh felicitated all ranks of the Command Hospital and called upon them to rededicate themselves to the service and care of the suffering soldiers. Sports events, pagal gymkhana and barakhana were also organised on the occasion. A get-together for serving and retired AMC officers was also held.

Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Lt Gen R. Jayaswal, Director General Medical Service Army Lt Gen S.C. Verma and Commandant AMC Centre and School Lt Gen S.P. Dutta, have congratulated all ranks of the Corps on the anniversary.

The AMC has been actively involved, during war as well as in peace times, in looking after the sick and wounded. Setting up field hospitals and evacuation from the front line s have been the role of the AMC, besides the treatment of the ailing clientele including serving and retired defence personnel.
