Some women groups demanded an apology from Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh for his reported 8220;sexist8221; remarks while describe his meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Outfits like All India Democratic Women8217;s Association dubbed Singh8217;s remarks as 8220;highly objectionable, condemnable, unacceptable and demeaning to all women8221;.

The Samajwadi Party general secretary had allegedly said in an interview to IANS news agency: 8220;When Prakash Karat goes to meet Sonia Gandhi, it8217;s called 8216;suhaag raat8217;, but when we go to meet her, it8217;s called 8216;balaatkaar8217;.8221;

8220;It is quite shocking that a political leader can make comments in such bad taste about political relationships that involve a prominent woman leader of the country,8221; women8217;s groups said in a statement.

The statement was issued by AIDWA, National Federation for Indian Women NFIW, Guild of Service, Centre for Women8217;s Development Studies and Young Women8217;s Christian Association.
