CHANDIGARH, May 29: Playing before the home crowd, left-handed Isha Chopra won her first title in the girls under-16 section after upsetting Harsimran Kaur of Chandigarh in straight set 6-3, 6-4 in the Adidas North Zone Junior tennis tournament at Yamunanagar today.

Isha Chopra executed her ground strokes with near perfection which unsettled her opponent. Harsimran Kaur committed too many unforced errors and also could not hold her serve. The Chandigarh girl committed a number of double faults, including the crucial at match point. In fact serve was the weakest point of both players.

Amanjot Singh of Chandigarh claimed the boys under-14 title. In a well-contested final, he defeated Nishank Mishra of Delhi 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.

Passing shot was the main weapon in left-handed Amanjot’s armoury while Mishra’s good angled volley and drop volley kept his opponent under consistent pressure.

In a title clash between sisters, Ankita Bhambri defeated Sanaa Bhambri in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the girls under-14 final. The final was a repeat of the Chandigarh leg between the sisters from Delhi. In the Chandigarh leg Ankita was extended to three sets in the final.

Prantap Chaturvedi of Dhaita was given a tough time by P Vishal, also of Dhaita, in the boys under-16 final. They split the first two sets before Chaturvedi won the decider to clinch the title. Chaturvedi, who was adjudged the best player of the tournament and received the PD Vashisht trophy, won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

According to Haryana Tennis Association secretary Suman Kapur, the Adidas Masters will be played at Delhi from June 14 in which all toppers of the four zones will take part.
