The CPI on Sunday urged the UPA Government to make a mid-course correction and asked other Left parties to 8220;redefine8221; their approach towards the ruling coalition.
The party said the Government 8220;singularly8221; failed on major economic policy issues like checking prices of essential commodities. Listing several other issues on which the Government 8220;failed8221; to deliver, the party8217;s National Council sought a review of the UPA8217;s performance in the past three years and stressed 8220;the need for a mid-course correction8221;. 8220;The CPI is of the view that the four Left parties, which together extended outside support to the UPA Government, should also review the situation and redefine their approach to it,8221; A B Bardhan told reporters after a three-day meeting of the National Council here. UPA partners also should review the performance of the Government seriously as 8220;only two years are left8221; for them to face the people in the next general election, he said.
Asked to clarify what he meant by 8220;redefining8221; support to the UPA, he said, 8220;I am not saying that we should withdraw support right now. What I am saying is to redefine our attitude towards the UPA and decide on how to go about our relationship.8221;
