CHANDIGARH, MAY 20: Top seed Amanjot Singh and Chatvinder Singh, the third seed, will clash in an All-Chandigarh boy’s under-16 final of North Zone Adidas Junior tennis championship which is being played at Yamunanagar.

According to information received here, Amanjot easily beat fourth seed Dhrub Kumar of West Bengal 6-1 6-4 while Chatwinder upset second seed Nipun Gupta (Delhi) 7-5 7-6 (7/2) in hard-fought battle.

In the under-16 girls category, fourth seed Rani Smita Jain of Rajasthan eliminated top seed Sania Mirza of Andhra Pradesh 7-5 7-5. Rani will meet Ankita Bhambri of Delhi in the title clash. Ankita prevailed over her sister Sanaa 6-3 6-4.

Boys Under-16: Amanjot Singh (Chandigarh) bt Dhrub Kumar (West Bengal) 6-1, 6-4; Chatvinder Singh (Chandigarh) bt Nipun Gupta (Delhi) 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).

Girls: Under-16: Rani Smitha Jain (Rajasthan) bt Sania Mirza (AP) 7-5, 7-5; Ankita Bhambri (Delhi) bt Sanaa Bhambri (Delhi) 6-3 6-4.

Tennis meet
The Adidas Junior Zonal tennis tournament will commence here at the Chandiarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) courts in Sector 10, from May 24. According to a press release, the qualifying rounds will be played on May 22 and 23 from 7 a.m., onwards.

The tournament is open to under-14 and under-16 boys and girls from Northern Zone, which includes states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.

More than 200 players are expected to take part in the meet.

The sign-in for the qualifying rounds will he held on May 21 at 5 p.m. at the CLTA Complex while for the main draw, which will comprise of 32 players will be held on May 23.

In the main draw 20 will be direct entries.

The matches will be played both on the synthetic and clay courts.

The winners in both the sections will earn 10 points while the runners-up will get 8 points.

Six points will be given to all the semifinalists. Quarterfinalists will be given four points and pre-quarterfinalists two points.

All the players who enter the first round will get one point each.
