KOCHI, JUNE 23: The district administration is fully geared up to face any fallout of the Kargil tension. Kochi is among the 225 cities likely to be targeted by Pakistan if the border tension escalates further.
An alert has been sounded to warn the industrial establishments like FACT and strategic institutions like Cochin Port Trust of possible threats to their respective premises.
Police have introduced new patrols to guard sensitive areas, Commissioner B S Mohammed Yasin said. 8220;Moreover, we have warned Navy and other defence establishments to tighten their security,8221; he added.
However, the administration has not received any notification in this regard from the Home Ministry in Delhi, District Collector K R Viswambharan said.
The process of strengthening Civil Defence includes forming eight-member squads for per 25,000 population. These squads will be responsible for inculcating awareness among the people in the eventuality of an attack.
