The UPA Government, which on Friday secured the Left8217;s consent to go ahead with negotiations on the operationalisation of the Indo-US nuclear deal, is set to get a big boost with the Congress solidly backing the deal in a resolution to be adopted at the AICC session on Saturday.

The Congress is also set to take a swipe at the Left with the party resolution containing references to recent incidents in Nandigram, said Congress sources.

The extended Congress Working Committee CWC that met here on Friday evening cleared the resolution on political, economic and foreign affairs, which contained the party8217;s backing of the nuclear deal. The CWC had earlier complimented Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the UPA Government for the deal.

The AICC resolution will reiterate that the nuclear deal was in the interest of the country and also assert that the UPA Government is pursuing an independent foreign policy, said sources. The party will adopt three other resolutions8212;60 years of Independence, Satyagraha centenary and 150 years of 1857 war of Independence.

Rahul Gandhi who was recently appointed AICC General Secretary in charge of Youth Congress and NSUI is also likely to address the session.

8220;It will be an action-packed AICC session because diverse subjects of substantive significance in a comprehensive resolution will be discussed threadbare,8221; said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Apart from the nuclear deal, the Congress is also set to address other contentious issues like the Sethusamudram project. On Saturday, the party will distribute booklets among the AICC delegates explaining how it was the previous NDA regime that had approved the project.
