MUMBAI, May 12: AVM had the height but their offence was virtually non-functional in the first quarter which Mastan lead 11-10. A couple of baskets from the pivotal position by Amol Bhidwe helped AVM take the lead.

But Mastan kept chipping away at through the brilliant shooting from free-throw line by Mohd Shoeb who had 10 points.

In the third quarter, AVM held a ten point lead 27-17 but Mastan came back brilliantly as AVM made mistakes in the offence. Down 25-28, Mastan missed a basket that proved crucial. They also earned at least eight free-throws but none of them were to Shoeb and it showed as they converted just three.

Mastan brought some excitement into the game as they reduced the lead to two points (30-32) but Ninad Watu’s basket then released the pressure and AVM cruised through.
