Even as the MNS hogs the limelight following its anti-north Indian posturing, the BJP on Thursday sought to defend ally Shiv Sena stating its political standing won8217;t be affected after the recent developments.

8220;Outsiders populating Mumbai is not the only issue that binds the Sena to the common man. There are various other important issues which the Sena is known to be fighting for,8221; Gopinath Munde, the party8217;s general secretary, told reporters here.

Holding the Congress-NCP Government responsible for the inconvenience caused to people in the state in the past few days, Munde disagreed with the stand taken by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh that it was the electronic media that aggravated the problem by repeatedly telecasting violent protests.

8220;I do not think the media aggravated the situation. If anybody is to be blamed for aggravating the situation it is Deshmukh and Deputy CM R R Patil. Had they issued instructions to the police to take stringent action, all this could have been averted,8221; said Munde, adding that the ruling combine did not conspire with the MNS, but it was their dilly-dallying that led to violent protests and tension that spread across the state.

8220;The state was wasting time taking legal advice from Advocate General for well established legal principles,8221; he said.
