VADODARA, June 28: Former Gujarat region incharge of Airport Authority of India AAI at Mumbai, Raj Shekhar joined the Vadodara aerodrome as Director AAI. He was formally welcomed to the new post by the staff at the airport recently.

Talking to Express Newsline about the upgradation of the airport, he said that the post of director had been created keeping in view the increasing importance of Vadodara in the context. Vadodara is the second airport in the State to have a director; the first being at Ahmedabad.

Shekar highlighted various recent advancements carried out by AAI including upgradation of the airport on civic and technological fronts and said the a full-fledged fire brigade station and an air traffic controllers8217; tower was currently being set up here.

Prior to his appointment here, various transactions pertaining to ATC and AAI had to be cleared from Mubai, which apparently often delayed decisions. But according to the new director, various decisions about the technological advancement on civic as well as communication fronts would be taken locally.
