
CHANDIGARH, Dec 24: Newly appointed city Mayor Kewal Kishan Adiwal has stated that development activities will be undertaken to bring colonies and villages inside the city at par with the sectors here.
In an exclusive interview to Chandigarh Newsline Adiwal said: quot;Our top priority will be four villages where problems are aplenty. No adequate attention has been paid since the corporation was formed.quot; These villages are Burail, Etawa, Buterla, and Badheri.
Being a son of retired senior steno of Haryana government, it was not easy for Adival to rise to this level.
He started his political career by joining the Sangh parivar in 1989, when he was 20. He was in the Bajrang Dal in 1991-92 when he came in contact with Sewa Bharati workers and party leaders.
Before being elected as MC councillor in 1996, Adiwal held several organisational posts in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Scheduled Caste Morcha of the party which helped him to win the BJP stalwarts.
A Sector 24 S.D. Public School product, Adiwal is a graduate and hold diploma in journalism from Allahabad University.
He said: quot;I will formulate a policy to make Corporation functioning simpler, transparent and corruption free. The expenditure will also be reduced to some extent, but not at the cost of development workquot;.
Besides dealing with buffalo-trade, running a kiryana shop and operating a cable network, Adiwal worked as a teacher in a private school. Recalling his commitment relating to the formation of ward committee, Adiwal said that those who are interested in ward committee could submit an application on plain papers by December 31, thereby giving proper representation of residents welfare associations.
Despite being expelled from BJP, he claimed the support of five BJP leaders owing allegiance to party president Dharampal Gupta who reportedly greeted him on being elected as Mayor. quot;To run the Corporation, I will take advice of ex-Mayor Kamla Sharma and former senior deputy mayor Prem Sagar Jain who helped me to this coveted postquot;.
