Actor Govinda receives underworld threat

Asked if the threat had come from underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, he urged the media not to indulge in speculation. 8220;Let the investigating agencies do their work8230; this is a very serious matter,8221; he said.

In New Delhi, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal promised protection to Govinda. 8220;Whatever is possible, we will certainly do,8221; Jaiswal said.

If the Home Ministry has received any information, it would act, the minister said. But since the actor had received the threat in Mumbai, it was the duty of the Maharashtra government and the state police to deal with the matter, he added.

Congress spokesman Rajeev Shukla said he had spoken to Govinda, who did not identify who had threatened him.

Former Maharashtra minister of state for home Kripashankar Singh said he had spoken to Govinda but the latter had declined to discuss the issue in detail.

8220;He Govinda told me that the party high command has been informed of the threats,8221; Singh said.

Govinda, who was elected to the LS from North Mumbai Constituency in 2004, currently has four films scheduled for release.
