A world beyond mere love stories and entertainment, that8217;s what Anita Shabdeesh creates through theatre
The arc lights of the stage have a charm but eventually it8217;s the movies that most want to settle in. And if you are a woman the popular conceptions like glamour, entertainment and a lot more would force a bend in your path, again towards the silver screen. 8220;That8217;s precisely why we don8217;t have many young girls taking to theatre. Even if they do, cinema remains the goal,8221; Anita Shabdeesh has seen this happen but refused to be a part of it. Theatre is where she finds her ultimate satisfaction. The Mohali-based theatre actor-director presented Pali Bhupinder8217;s 8216;Agali Dastak Hon Ton Pehlan8217; at the Punjab Kala Bhawan on Tuesday evening. With a mother as the protagonist, the play highlighted how women are the eventual victims of wars and riots.

8220;More girls should come forward to make theatre a commitment. Their lack is a terrible void in theatre in our region,8221; Anita highlights, aware that money would any day prove more attractive than 8216;tapassya8217;. She, however, was lucky enough to have had the support of her family and later her husband Shabdeesh. 8220;My father is a poet. Growing in a literary atmosphere it was natural for me to step onto the stage. Shabdeesh is a writer-poet so that works for all of us!8221; smiles Anita. As an actress she believes that there is no meaning in doing mere love stories and entertainment. 8220;If I have to work regularly it makes more sense to utilize that time and effort to create awareness. We have enough of the rest already,8221; Anita8217;s group Suchetak Rangmanch has been working on those lines since 8216;98. One common thread that one sees in her plays is the importance of female characters. Anita did venture into comedy with 8216;Kuchh Taan Karo Yaaron8217; last year but that too had a definite purpose. 8220;I wanted to highlight that mere talks are leading us to nowhere. We must take definite steps to change things about and around us. And as portrayed in 8216;Agali Dastak Hon ton Pehlan8217;, to change things we need to be born again!8221; she signs off.
