Police today arrested the main accused in the acid attack case, Vijay Kumar Sandu alias Pappu, from Ludhiana. The 25-year-old Vijay is the cousin of victim Ishita Sandu.
Besides, Daljeet Singh, another alleged accused, who was arrested two days ago from Ludhiana, was produced in a local court today and was remanded to a day’s judicial custody. Police said the identification parade would be done after getting the court orders.
Talking to reporters, DGP A.K. Puri said Vijay’s medical examination was being conducted in a Ludhiana hospital. He added that the main accused was being brought to Shimla tonight.
Vijay, a resident of Nadaun in Hamirpur district, was a MA (Political Science) student of Panjab University, Chandigarh, and was working as a trainee custom agent with a shipping company in Ludhiana.
On the incident, DGP Puri said the two accused came to Shimla on a scooter on Sunday last and stayed in a hotel on Cart Road. Puri said the accused had told police they had met the victim and her mother at the Mall. On Monday morning, Vijay showed the victim’s house to Daljeet Singh. He expected the victim to board a bus for college at 8.30 am. But when she didn’t come, Vijay rang her up and asked her to come. When the victim reached the bus stand, the accused threw acid on her.
The DGP said Vijay had also suffered acid injuries on his arms and legs. As the clothes of both the accused were burnt, one of them changed his shirt before reaching Mashobra and the other bought a shirt there.
