Accidental deaths

Provisional data compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau says the year 2006 saw 3,14,704 deaths due to accidents. These include deaths due to road mishaps, drowning, poisoning, heart attacks, avalanche, snakebite, electrocution and exposure to cold:

8226;Maharashtra recorded the highest number of 57,103 deaths 43,275 men and 13,828 women, up from 52,649 in 2005

8226;Madhya Pradesh recorded 29,527, an increase of 1,479 deaths from 2005; Andhra Pradesh came a close third with 27,787 deaths against the figure of 24,232 in 2005

8226;Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are fourth and fifth in the list with 25,033 and 23,499 deaths

8226;Delhi recorded 7,522 accidental deaths compared to 7,371 in 2005
