ACB to get more powers

Announcing this here on Tuesday, Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya told newspersons that a select team of ACB officers had just returned from Delhi after receiving a scientific training from the CBI, who had already been put on job to weed out corruption from high places in the State. Pandya said the Government had set up a special intelligence branch at the ACB headquarter at Ahmedabad to further strengthen the Bureau8217;s functioning and collect relevant information about those officers and employees amassing wealth by corrupt practices. quot;Any person who wants to give information about corrupt public servants can contact the ACB8217;s control room on 2869228,quot; he said.

The minister said the trained ACB officials would be provided sophisticated electronic gadgets to help them detect corruption cases and book the culprits. The ACB officials had detected at least two cases of corruption recently.

He said the ACB sleuths raided the residential premises of a Road Transport Inspector in Ahmedabad and seized Rs 40.13 lakh unaccounted cash and other incriminating documents. In another raid, the ACB team detected unaccounted Rs 8.25 lakh and also seized incriminating documents from the residential premises of a deputy mamlatdar in Valsad district.
