Visualize a shopping scene a decade ago. One fine day, housewives with baskets in hands and kids in tow decide to go shopping. The whole day is planned to spend and purchase the goods required for the household. Lists are drawn, plans are made and off sets the team for a shopping spree! Shopping gobbled up the whole day and left the shoppers high and dry; high as it was a picnic for the usually homy8217; ladies and dry as it left them drained off the vigour and energy and wondering at the end of the spree as to where to buy the left out items in the list. That was of course left to the next shopping binge.
But not any longer! It is a jet set age with the young and old both taking to a whole new lifestyle of zooming past everyone and everything. There is a whole breed of super stores mushrooming all over the city catering to the yet new class of consumers who can8217;t afford to plan ahead for something as trivial as shopping groceries in their busy and hectic schedule. These super markets have turned out to be a blessing in disguise for this upward mobile class. Already reigning the scene are the superstores in Sector 35 namely the Nanz, JD8217;s, A-mart, and others like Punjab Stores, Empire Stores, Supermarket in other Sectors of the Union Territory. The latest elaborate one is the renovated Peshwari8217;s in Sector 19.
They have answers simply to all your needs. The sections are marked for different items in these stores and you just have to walk up to that counter to choose, select and put the items in your basket or trolley and roll it out of the store right to the boot of your car. The billing is also computerised with item codes and prices fed in the computer. Simple8230;! No hassles, no worries, no hunting required that earlier devoured ones8217; precious time.
It was the fast food culture earlier and now it is the fast shopping culture to have hit the city now. 8220;All commodities are available under one roof and it takes me just one shopping trip to take home my requirements.8221; said Meena Chowdhary, a school teacher in the city who finds shopping easier and convenient with the upsurge of these supermarkets. Expressing her opinion, Sapan Atwal, a young mother said, 8220;Super stores are simply a call answered as I can8217;t think of leaving my three month old baby home for shopping at different shops.8221;
It is also a fun experience for the avid shoppers as they get much more time and fun to shop under the same roof for virtually every item they require. It is understanding the need of the customers that such super markets are simply taking the city for a cloud nine ride by their upsurgement.
Abstract in symmetry
This youngster is one with immense potential. His lines and colour schemes defy his age and the fact that this was his first ever exhibition. And Harpratap Singh8217;s creations in abstraction reflect both his thought process, viewing life through the prism of slightly jumbled up lines, and his innate talent as this one wants to go big on that front.
Harpratap8217;s collection of paintings went up on the walls of the Government Museum this evening and will be on display till December 23. Harpratap emerges through his paintings as one with clear-cut perception and understanding of colour composition for they presented a smooth flow of thoughts.
There is a commendable symmetry in them, symmetry both in the depiction and the depicted. But, his forte seems to be abstract as he himself said that he enjoyed doing them more. And the onlookers also shared that enjoyment; whether it was the black hands8217; expressing various emotions against a backdrop of grey which merged into the theme or the well-crafted pieces in pastel shades that spoke about the troubled paradise8217; of our existence.
