A court here today allowed four of those found guilty in the 1993 bomb blasts case to surrender on December 21, extending by a week the time to give themselves up.
Convicts Zebunisa Kazi, Mubina Bhiwandiwala, Yusuf Nalwala and Kersi Adejania had earlier been asked to surrender today. However, they sought more time on humanitarian grounds from the TADA court to surrender.
Mubina pleaded there was no one in her family to look after her children while Zebunisa said she had a cardiac problem. Nalwala prayed for time, saying his mother was unwell, while Adejania said he was suffering from cataract.
Nalwala and Adejania were convicted under the Arms Act on charges of helping actor Sanjay Dutt destroy an AK-56 rifle. Mubina was found guilty of organising conspiracy meetings at her house while Zebunisa was convicted for keeping in her possession arms transported to her house from the residence of Sanjay, who has also been convicted by the same court of charges under the Arms Act.
Since the four were granted time to surrender, it is likely that Sanjay may also be granted an extension on the same lines, legal experts said. Sanjay was held guilty under the Arms Act for illegally possessing a 9-mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle and was asked by Judge P D Kode to surrender on
December 19.
