
MUMBAI, June 10: The Government of Maharashtra has constituted eight special courts in Mumbai and elsewhere in the state to exclusively try cases under the new Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act MCOCA, 1999. An order to this effect was issued by Principal Secretary to the government, S K Shah, today.
Two courts have been constituted in Mumbai and one each in Thane, Pune, Aurangabad, Amravati, Nagpur and Nasik. The courts in Mumbai will be presided over by A P Bhangale and A D Gangurde, both additional sessions judges. Additional Sessions Judge A D Inamdar has been appointed for Thane, Judge V G Munshi Pune, R C Chavan Aurangabad, S P Kulkarni Amravati, K S Deshmukh Nagpur and D S Zoting Nashik.
Provision of a special court was suggested under the new act which was passed at the budget session of the State legislature which concluded in April.
Mohammed Farooq Abdul Chifa-Rangari, an accused in the attack on former mayor Milind Vaidya early this year, was the first person to be bookedunder the MCOCA.
