PANAJI, FEB 8: Police have arrested seven persons in connection with the incident in which a senior teacher was assaulted for framing a question related to Kargil war for the Konkani pre-board examination at Marcela, near here, on February 1.

All those accused were booked under section 143 and 147 of IPC and later released on bail on Monday, police sources said. Ponda police gave the names of arrested persons as Shyam Prabhu, Siddhartha Palang, Gurudutta Joshi, Dilip Sawaikar, Yogesh Lawande, Abhijeet Savoikar and Mohandas Lawande.

The accused had allegedly forced thier entry into the Sharada English High School, misbehaved with the teachers and blackened the face of a Konkani teacher, Dharmanand Kholkar in protest against the question in Konkani pre-board examination, which was held on Janaury 19.

In the Konkani paper of the pre-board examination, the students were asked to develop a story, along the lines of a series of points mentioned, which centred around a functional encounter with Indian and Pakistani troops in Kargil wherein one of the Indian soldiers was injured and left helpless on the battle field. When the soldier regained consciousness he found himself in a hospital manned by Pakistanis. When he questioned the Pakistani soldiers as to why they did not kill him, one of them replied that although both were soldiers defending their nations, they were humans too.

Protesting against the nature of the question concerned, a group of people, alleged to be Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad AVBP activists assaulted the question paper setter for what they termed as quot;lowering the dignity of Indian soldiersquot;.
