
The wait of the teachers and staff working in government-aided private schools for their salaries of the last five months refuses to end.
It is more than a year now since 10,000 government school teachers have not got their salaries in time.
The teachers last received their salaries in March. Government-Aided Private Schools Principals8217; Association President and N M Jain School Principal O P Arora said, 8220;It is getting impossible to manage without salaries. The aided schools get 95 per ent grant from the state government while 5 per cent is given by the school managing committee of the respective school. Many teachers have taken personal loans or are borrowing money from their near and dear ones. The school management had arranged one month8217;s salary of teachers which was about Rs 4.50 lakh. But it is not possible to churn out such an amount every month.8221;
R S Model Senior Secondary School Principal M L Kalra said, 8220;There are many schools where the school management cannot even afford one month8217;s salary. One can imagine the difficulty being faced by teachers.8221;
Around 7,000 computer science teachers employed in government schools are also sailing in the same boat. Gurvinder Singh, President, Computer Teachers8217; Union said, 8220;We are fed up of delayed release of salaries. Neither the government is regularising us nor releasing our dues in time. We held a state-level protest today at Jalandhar and also stopped Amritsar-bound Shatabdai for about an hour at Rama-Mandi.8221;
Commenting on the issue, Computer Teachers Union Ludhiana-2 Block President Ranjan Bhanot said, 8220;It has been a year since we have been getting our salaries only four times a year. My wife and I are both computer teachers and it is very difficult to meet the daily expenses.8221;
