46 charged in Malpur violence cases

JAIPUR, OCT 10: The Rajasthan police has filed chargesheets against 46 persons in the five cases registered in connection with the Malpura communal riots. The chargesheets were submitted in the court of special magistrate R.C. Meena yesterday.

Malpura, a small town in Tonk district of Rajasthan, and its surrounding areas were rocked by communal violence in July, during which a dozen people were killed.

Five people have been charged with the murder of Kailash Mali, husband of Seoti Devi, former president of the Malpura Municipal committee and a member of the BJP. Mali, himself an accused in a previous incident of rioting, was stabbed to death by a group of people on July 10, leading to the communal riots. On July 14, Mali8217;s son lodged a case with the police and the five people were charged with the crime.

Another five people were chargesheeted on the basis of a complaint by Shahzad, whose brother and uncle were murdered the same day during the rioting. Yet another five people were chargesheeted for the murder of a man and his son after the man8217;s father registered a complaint. Two more people will be chargesheeted in this case later, sources said.

Twenty-six people have been charged for an attack on a place of worship, rioting and burning of a shopkeeper8217;s cabin. A total of 25 persons were earlier chargesheeted for an attack on the house of a woman, followed by her murder at Tordi Sagar village near Malpura. The case had been lodgedby the victim8217;s brother-in-law.
