
JALANDHAR, Oct 4: The police today claimed to have busted four gangs involved in robberies and recovered goods worth Rs 1.7 million, including a stolen Smith and Wesson revolver valued at nearly Rs 2 lakh. Nineteen persons have been arrested in this connection, Senior Superintendent of Police P.S. Gill showed the stolen booty including diamond-studded jewellery, gold chains, bangles, weapons and a truck.
8220;The common man is mostly affected by this sort of crime,8221; he said, adding special instructions had been issued to ensure that recovered goods were returned to their owners at the earliest.
With today8217;s arrests, 11 cases of thefts and robberies, including the case regarding snatching of gun from a local bank guard and attempted heist were solved, Gill said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police also presented at the press conference Amrik Singh Chawla from whose house goods worth over Rs 4 lakh were stolen on August 15. Chawla was all praises for the police and expressed satisfaction with the fact that the recovered property was being handed over to him without too many official hassles.
Giving details of the gangs, Gill said six men of a gang were arrested by Superintendent of Police detective Madan Gopal this week while three members of another gang, who were declared proclaimed offenders in a bank-heist, were arrested by the CIA police.
Goraya police busted yet another gang of criminals by arresting four robbers and recovered property worth over Rs one lakh.
8220;All SHO8217;s must be able to solve at least 60 per cent of such cases. Only then the public confidence in police would take roots,8221; Gill said.
