3 get life term for burning man to death

NEW DELHI, November 6: Additional Sessions Judge D.S. Pawariya today sentenced a man8217;s wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law to life imprisonment for burning him to death in April last year.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 500 each on Hukumchand8217;s wife Baby, her brother Sanjay and mother Satya Devi. The victim reportedly had a strained relationship with his wife. The couple had three children. According to some of the witnesses produced by the prosecution, Hukumchand did not like Baby8217;s frequent visits to her sister8217;s house.

The incident took place on April 29, 1997, when Hukumchand went to bring Baby back from her sister8217;s house in the Anand Parbat police station area. In his order, the judge said: 8220;In his dying declaration, the deceased clearly stated that Satya Devi poured kerosene oil on him, Baby caught hold of him and then Rajesh set his clothes afire8221;.
