MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 17: Two gangsters owing allegiance to the Chhota Shakeel gang were shot dead in an encounter with the police near Hindu Gymkhana today. Police had laid a trap for them at Marine Lines. Both were killed in the subsequent exchange of fire. They have been identified as Shamshuddin and Iqbal, police said.

Meanwhile, an employee of `Petrol-Diesel Agency’ was injured and locked in a public toilet by two unidentified persons who stole Rs 5,72,970 from him. Police say the employee had been appointed by the agency to collect money from its clients. After doing so, he proceeded towards Wadi Bunder near Masjid. When he was at Dongri, he entered a toilet, where two men were lying in wait. After attacking him with choppers, they stole the money he was carrying and fled. Dongri police have registered a case of theft.

In another case of theft, Rs 2 lakh was stolen by five membes of the Vinod Matkar gang from a petrol pump at Charkop in Kandivli. The incident took place on Thursday, when the employees were going to deposit money in a branch of the State Bank of India. En route, they were accosted by the gangsters and robbed. The employees, however, managed to catch one of them, Dattaray Vasant Patil. Police have since recovered the money and also seized some firearms.
