
MOGA, Oct 8: The district police today claimed to have arrested two more persons in connection with a case of lynching of a police official by some volatile villagers of nearby Basti Lal Singh recently.
The arrests, made yesterday, have taken the number of accused apprehended to 10 so far in the case in which head constable Tarsem Singh was battered to death on September 3 by the villagers who mistook him for a gangster of the dreaded 8220;Kale Kacchewale8221;.
The persons nabbed yesterday 8211; Surjit Singh and Kulwant Singh, both belonging to Basti Lal Singh 8211; were produced in the court and remanded to police custody till tomorrow. The eight other persons arrested earlier also are currently under police custody, the police said. The FIR filed as part of the case demanded arrest of 15 more persons, they added.
The ongoing investigation into the gruesome incident had invited wrath from the villagers who alleged that the police were intimidating them.
SSP Sharad S. Chohan on Tuesday evening made an effort to pacify them saying that the police would not resort to hounding tactics even as efforts to punish the guilty would continue.
