Kalupur police recovered 17 8216;desi8217; bombs from a garbage dump in Kalupur area on Monday morning.

Cops suspect unidentified persons may have left the bombs in the garbage dump, fearing arrests after increased police checks in the wake of the July 26 serial blasts.

The incident was reported around 8.30 am when a passer-by informed the city police control room about the bombs in the garbage dump on the footpath near the G A Latif Building in Kalupur area. The bombs were wrapped in a piece of cloth and made of normal fire-crackers sealed in an iron box, used to keep pan-masala. The iron boxes, wrapped with sutlis jute strings were filled with nails.

8220;We rushed to the spot and called the Bomb Disposal Squad and the FSL officers. The bombs were taken to a safe place and then defused,8221; said Kalupur police inspector N B Nagori.

8220;The bombs seem old. Someone may have kept it at home, but due to increased police vigilance after the July 26 blasts, may have dumped it in the garbage dump,8221; he said.

Nagori refused to call it an act to create terror in the wake of the upcoming festive season.
