Ahmedabad, March 23: Fencing has been completed at a mere 10 kms stretch along the international border in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district.

The fencing work along the 512 kms of Gujarat’s international border with Pakistan, barring inaccessible tracts of land in Kutch district, at this pace could only be expected to be completed not before two years, official sources told PTI here today.

Asked the reason for the tardy pace of fencing, sources said that financial constraints and physiograhical features were two limiting factors affecting the speedy fencing along the Gujarat’s international border with Pakistan.

Meanwhile, to keep infiltration under check, security measures have been tightened along the porous areas of Kutch and Banaskantha districts having border with Pakistan.

Normally, instances of infiltration peaks before monsoon and therefore during this period vigilance along the border is extra-tightened, sources added.

Security agencies are leaving no stone unturned in the fencing aspect. Extra strong wires have been used in the fencing and steps have been taken to minimise tampering by infiltrators.
