Advani also took a jibe at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying he has sympathy for him as the Congress president has become more powerful than him.

Dwelling on how does BJP8217;s leadership differ from that of the Congress, he said, 8220;in the Congress party, for leadership there is reservation for members of a particular dynasty. No one else can8221; become a leader at the top.

8220;I sometimes feel depressed to see how brazenly an entire party has been appropriated and made into a family fiefdom and how slavishly Congressman have resigned themselves to this appropriation,8221; he said.

8220;It is the saddest development in India8217;s political evolution,8221; he said on a day Gandhi achieved an unparalleled feat in the history of the Congress by completing ten years as its president.

The leaders of the BJP on the other hand, he said, have come from the common people who support the party and it never had a life-long president as the Congress does.

In sharp criticism of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Advani said the Indira Gandhi government 8216;altered the basic structure8217; of the Constitution during Emergency days and today 8216;they have destroyed the basic structure of the Congress Constitution8217;.

8220;It is not surprising that those who had the arrogance to tamper with the nation8217;s Constitution for the sake of power, tampering with the leadership selection within one8217;s own party is a very simple matter indeed,8221; he said.

In his nearly 90-minute speech, Advani devoted most of the time to paint Congress as a dynastic party and even talked about how most of the Government programmes, institutes and schemes are named after members of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

8220;I have an objection to this present Government8217;s leadership, Congress party8217;s leadership that is not merely in terms of who occupies the top post. But even in terms of projecting to the country who are the great men, they are unshackled by that dynastic concept,8221; he said.

The basic difference, he said, between BJP and the Congress is that 8216;we never had a life-long President in our party. Some parties have. We never had. In Congress party it is a life-long dynasty8217;.

8220;Even persons like Deve Gowda, Chandrasekhar and I K Gujral who did not have big parties with them did not seek the permission for everything from the Congress party,8221; Advani remarked.

8220;I sometimes pity him. I feel sympathy for him. The office of Prime Minister has authority which is enormous. There is no lack of authority in that,8221; he said.

He said there is some sort of Kremlinisation of Indian polity like the erstwhile USSR where the General Secretary of the Communist Party has more power than the country8217;s President.
