After 18 long years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) created history in Ahmedabad by winning their first-ever Indian Premier League title on June 3. Virat Kohli, who has been with the team since the beginning, shed happy tears as wife Anushka Sharma came running towards him for a long, tight hug, and a forehead kiss from the cricketer. In a chat post the award ceremony, Kohli also opened up about the significance of the win for the Zero actor, whom he married in 2017.

“What your life partner does for you to be able to play, and the sacrifices, and the commitment, and just backing you through thick and thin…it’s something that you can’t explain in words. Only when you play professionally do you understand the number of things that go on behind the scenes and what they go through emotionally as well. Watching me down and out, her coming to the games, being so connected with Bengaluru…she is a Bengaluru girl as well…being connected to RCB is very special for her as well. She must be so so proud,” said Kohli.

Kohli also took to social media to share a picture with Anushka, where he wrote that while he has waited for 18 years, Anushka has waited for 11. “I’ve seen it for 18 years and she’s seen it for 11. Suffered the same moments since 2014 and celebrated every close win and the madness of our supporters at the Chinnaswamy. We’re both equally relieved and since shes a bangalore girl too this is far more special for her. Together all the way through,” said Kohli on Instagram.

Reflecting on the heartwarming moment, Dr Santosh Bangar, senior consultant psychiatrist, Gleneagles Hospitals, Parel, Mumbai, said that supporting each other through thick and thin and being a constant cheerleader can not only help the relationship thrive, but it also helps individual performances. “It can create a sense of teamwork and also boost trust. Even a little push or encouragement can bolster the confidence of your partner, making Herculean tasks easier to handle,” Dr Bangar added.

In the realm of human connection, the profound embrace shared between two individuals in moments of triumph speaks volumes about the power of emotional support and the bonds that form, and the joy seen in Kohli’s embrace of Anushka after a hard-fought victory exemplifies this notion. “It invites us to reflect on how our loved ones are not merely spectators in our lives, but are integral to our journey. Their presence amplifies our joys and helps us navigate our sorrows,” expressed Dr Bangar.

Such moments become not just personal victories but shared milestones that strengthen the bond we hold, reminding us of the beauty of togetherness in every win.

According to Dr Bangar, supporting each other emotionally through tough times, listening to feelings without being judgmental and celebrating every small success can help create a loving and positive environment. This is the key to a healthy relationship, he noted.

He also asserted that both partners need to feel happy, supported, respected, and valued to stay happier and more motivated. “A strong relationship is always built on mutual respect, trust, shared responsibilities and the willingness to grow together,” said Dr Bangar.
