This beauty trend promises youthful, glowing skin; but is strictly not to be tried by pregnant women and those with pacemakers
Besides reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, this gadget also improves the texture of the skin and reduce puffiness under the eyes.

If you’re a fan of beauty treatments, high-frequency wands are the latest devices on the block that promise youthful glow and age-reversing benefits. But what exactly are they? We talked to a clinical expert and learned about the myriad health benefits and risks associated with using these skin-friendly gadgets.
“High-frequency wands are skincare devices that use high-frequency electrical currents to treat various skin issues, including acne, wrinkles, and sagging skin,” said Dr Shalini Patodiya, Dermatologist & Cosmetologist, Citizens Specialty Hospital, Hyderabad.
She explained that these high-frequency wands generate an electrical current that passes through a glass electrode filled with either argon or neon gas. When applied to the skin, this current produces a mild electrical charge that emits a soft glow and a buzzing noise.
“The treatment delivers oxygen-enriched molecules to the skin, which helps kill bacteria, stimulate blood flow that promotes cell renewal and improves skin texture, and promote collagen and elastin production, which leads to firmer, more youthful-looking skin. It also enhances product absorption, maximizing the efficacy of skincare products,” added Dr Patodiya.
Listing out the various skin benefits of these high-frequency wands, she shares that they offer anti-acne and anti-aging properties that clear up acne and prevent new pimples from forming. Besides reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, they also improve the skin’s texture, and the gentle electrical current helps reduce swelling and dark circles under the eyes.

Health risks involved
“While high-frequency wands are generally safe, some potential risks, such as overuse or improper use, can lead to skin irritation and burns. Some people might also suffer from electrical sensitivity; therefore, those with electrical implants or certain medical conditions should avoid using these devices,” said Dr Patodiya.
Who should avoid?
Pregnant women and those with pacemakers or electrical implants should avoid using these high-frequency wands, as the electrical current might interfere with these devices. According to Dr Patodiya, people with severe skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, or severe acne should consult a dermatologist before using these wands. “Epilepsy patients must also be careful since electrical stimulation may trigger their seizures,” concluded the expert.
