In the pursuit of radiant, healthy skin, we often find ourselves inundated with tips and tricks. While skincare can be a wonderful tool for maintaining your skin’s health and appearance, there are also habits you may be indulging in that may be working against your goal of attaining flawless skin.

Recently, Dr Rashmi Shetty shared a few skincare habits to ghost. Yes, it’s not just people you need to ghost; it’s these habits too.

Picking your skin

Whether it’s squeezing acne, picking at blemishes, or messing with scabs, picking your skin can lead to infection, scarring, and slower healing. It’s better to let your skin do its thing or seek professional help from a dermatologist.

Not washing your hands before washing your face

Your hands touch countless surfaces and objects daily. If you skip handwashing before touching your face, you risk transferring all sorts of bacteria, viruses, and germs from your hands to your facial skin.

Not double cleansing before bed

Double cleansing before bed involves using two cleansers to thoroughly remove makeup, sunscreen, impurities, and excess oils from your skin. A single cleanse might leave behind makeup, sunscreen, and impurities, potentially causing clogged pores and breakouts.

Dirty pillowcases

Resting your face on a grubby pillowcase exposes your skin to all those microorganisms, increasing the chances of breakouts and skin irritations. Plus, while you sleep, your skin works its magic, healing and regenerating. A dirty pillowcase can slow down this process.

Sleeping with makeup on

Snoozing with makeup can clog pores, upping the risk of acne, blackheads, and whiteheads. Removing makeup before bed is non-negotiable for keeping your skin healthy and glowing.

But wait, there’s more! Dr Seema Oberoi, consultant-dermatology, CK Birla, Gurugram told indianexpress.com some skincare habits to avoid:

Applying oil to your scalp for dandruff: If your dandruff is due to a fungus called Malassezia, adding oil to your scalp can feed the fungus and create a cozy environment for it to thrive.

Using oily products on pimple-prone Skin: Oily products are an invitation for acne breakouts. They may contain ingredients that clog pores and encourage acne development, making existing pimples worse and inviting new ones to the party.

Taking hot showers in winter: Hot showers in the winter may feel divine, but they can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry, itchy, and flaky. And since winter air is already dry, this combo can wreak havoc on your skin.

Applying kajal on your waterline: Your waterline is a delicate area with a thin mucous membrane. Applying kajal directly there can lead to irritation, stinging, and discomfort, especially if the product isn’t eye-friendly.
