The origins of the day are believed to trace back to the ancient Greeks and Romans honoured and valued women for their steadfast contributions to society by celebrating the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.

However, as per the modern version, it’s marked in honour of her late mother, Anna Jarvis, who hosted the first Mother’s Day in the United States in 1907.

Inspired by her mother’s unwavering efforts as a community health champion, Anna started advocating for a national Mother’s Day celebration in the early 1900s.

According to history, her efforts paid off in 1914 when Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, signed a proclamation declaring the second Sunday in May to be Mother’s Day.

In the US, the day was declared a national holiday. In India, as well as other countries, the concept immediately became well-liked.

Mother’s Day is a day to express gratitude to moms and mother-like people by giving them gifts, cards, and flowers. It is also a time for families to come together and celebrate the occasion.

It’s also a day to raise awareness about maternal health. The day is viewed as an opportunity to raise awareness about the difficulties that women endure when raising their children, as well as the importance of providing enough support and resources to assist them on their journey.
