Katrina Kaif opens up about her obsession with makeup: ‘I never apply lipstick directly on my lips’

The Kay Beauty founder further recalled, “I was always sitting and observing their technique and asking questions like why you are smudging the liner, why you are using the concealer here, or why you are using a lip liner. Very quickly, I learned all those techniques. I realised that I know my face really well. I know what I would like to look like. And very quickly, I started doing most of my makeup.”

Kaif, who is married to actor Vicky Kaushal, said she also knew the kind of makeup she would like her on-screen characters to wear. “I really enjoyed it, but slowly, I started realizing what I want from a product and how it should work. So, I wanted to fill the gaps with high-performance makeup and high-quality products that deliver, especially on stage, in cinema, and for dancing,” added Kaif.

Kaif also revealed that she never applies lipstick directly. “All my career, I have never applied lipstick straight away on my lips. I take a lip brush, I apply the lipstick, and I blend a little bit of lip balm because I like my lips to look moisturised.”

Making an observation, Shivani Talla from Ruhvani’s Qala by Shivani told indianexpress.com that for a makeup artist the face is the canvas. “Just as a painter uses colours and strokes to express feelings, makeup lets you express your personality and mood. It’s a way to show the world who you are and how you feel on any given day. It uplifts your spirits,” said Talla.

She also shared that makeup can boost an individual’s confidence. “It may also be because makeup is a reflection of personal style and self-care,” said Talla.
