In an Instagram video, Alaya demonstrated a series of facial massage techniques, captioning it: “What if I told you that you could sculpt your face sitting at home without any equipment? Save this video and do these 11 steps 11 times.”

“Anyone following me for a while has probably noticed that my face shape has changed quite a bit over the last few years! I used to have a lot of issues with puffiness, and I had a lot of baby fat on my face. What is face sculpting?

Face sculpting involves using manual massage techniques to redefine facial contours, enhance skin tone, and reduce puffiness, explained Dr DM Mahajan, Senior Consultant Dermatology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. This non-invasive method relies on stimulating blood circulation, promoting lymphatic drainage, and relaxing facial muscles to deliver visible results.

According to Dr Mahajan, “Face sculpting offers multiple benefits, including improved definition, reduced puffiness, and a radiant complexion. However, it requires consistent effort, and the results may vary based on individual skin types and conditions.”

He further explains, “The upward strokes and gentle pressure used in face sculpting encourage lymphatic drainage, reduce fluid retention, and boost blood circulation. This can result in a more contoured appearance, reduced puffiness, and a natural glow.”

The routine’s focus on relaxing facial muscles also helps to relieve stress, which often contributes to facial tension and dullness.

Should you try it?

Face sculpting offers numerous benefits, Dr Mahajan said, including:

  • Non-Invasive: A natural alternative to surgical or injectable procedures.
  • Improved Definition: Helps enhance cheekbones, jawline, and brow shape.
  • Relaxation: Relieves muscle tension and promotes a sense of calm.
  • Accessible: Requires no tools, making it easy to practice at home.

However, Dr Mahajan advises caution in certain cases:

  • Sensitive Skin: Individuals with conditions like acne, rosacea, or eczema should avoid these techniques as they may exacerbate inflammation.
  • Post-Surgery or Injury: Avoid face sculpting during recovery periods to prevent strain on healing tissues.
  • Underlying Health Conditions: Those with lymphatic or circulatory issues should consult a doctor before trying this routine.

Dr Mahajan sums it up: “If done correctly and consistently, face sculpting can provide a noticeable boost to your skin’s health and appearance. However, it’s essential to listen to your skin and consult a dermatologist if you experience any discomfort.”
