Actor Shefali Shah, a chameleon of the silver screen, has woven her magic into the hearts of audiences with her transformative performances. From the gritty alleys of Delhi to the glamorous world of Bollywood, she has effortlessly slipped into diverse roles, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema. With a career spanning decades, Shah has redefined the boundaries of acting, proving her talent knows no bounds. Her ability to inhabit characters, both familiar and extraordinary, makes her a true master of her craft. We caught up with her on day 2 of the Lakmé Fashion Week, where she opened for iconic designer duo Abraham & Thakore. Dressed in a jet-black shimmering sari, made using garbage bags and discarded CDs, along with other things often considered "waste," Shah dazzled as she often does on the screen. Here's an edited version of our interview with her: Q. You've often talked about struggling with body image issues. Do you still struggle? Shefali Shah: Yes, I do. Even today as I walked the ramp, for that matter. I'm not proud of it. But yes, it's real. Even if we struggle, start by saying it in front of the mirror. Surround yourself with people who love you and remind you how wonderful you are when you can't trust your own voice. Q. You've said multiple times that your friends have built you up. What’s your view on female friendships? Shefali Shah: Timeless. My girlfriends are my vertebrae; each single vertebra builds up my spine. They make me taller. I walk stronger because of them. I would probably collapse if not for them. Shefali Shah: I come from the generation who wanted a change, So, it's not, "Oh my god, let me change it overnight," it's something that has happened with time because of me thinking, "Come on, guys, let's get this right." Q. You love reading. What’s your current bedside book? Shefali Shah: I'm reading a book called Stalker (by Lars Keplar). I just finished reading Anxious People by Frederick Backman and it's one of the best books I've read. It's too cool. Loved it.
