Walking is said to be an extremely potent exercise for health. But what exactly happens to your blood sugar levels when you walk after a meal? According to health content creator Justin Richard, who often tests out blood sugar levels using his CGM, recently shared that walking after a meal, at least for 30 minutes, does not raise sugar levels as much as sitting does. “Walking and my blood sugar. Further, your body releases insulin that helps the glucose to smoothly travel from your bloodstream into the cells for producing energy or storage,” explained Dr Jain.

How does walking help?

When there is a spike, your muscles become active and may require additional energy to perform effectively. “Increased physical activity after eating foods, especially heavy meals, can help lower blood sugar levels. This is why it is always recommended that individuals go for a walk after every meal,” said Dr Jain.

Avoid eating foods that can trigger your blood sugar levels, and opt for healthy and well-balanced meals.

“People with diabetes or pre-diabetic should be cautious and mindful about their eating choices while focusing on physical activity,” said Dr Jain.
