30 confirmed flu cases in Karnataka

With a 29-year-old man testing positive for swine flu today,the total number of affected rose to 30 in Karnataka,health officials said.

The man,who arrived at Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) from Melbourne via Bangkok,on July 4 went home and yesterday got admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases with suspected flu symptoms.

His throat swab was sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV),Pune,whose result — positive — came today,the officials said.

He is being treated at Lakeside Hospital here.

“Of the 30 positive cases,25 have been discharged till date and advised to stay at home for a week while the remaining are being treated — three at Lakeside and two at Victoria Hospital,” they said.

Till date,a total of 391 samples had been sent to NIV and over 2.16 lakh passengers screened in the state.
