Buttermilk is a probiotic cooling drink that has survived the colas and the packaged shakes and juices. Every family used to make cultured fresh yogurt everyday, and most families in smaller towns still make their own yogurt. The full cream yogurt is churned to make white butter and the remaining thin residue is the buttermilk that is considered cooling and is probiotic due to the presence of lactic acid bacteria.
