Considering they don’t come cheap, it is important to stick to an expert take on how to store them in the correct way to avoid spoilage.

As such, in our quest to find out a few ways when we came across this hack of storing avocados in cold water in the refrigerator, we decided to ask an expert about the best way to store avocados to ensure a longer shelf-life.

“Yes, putting avocado in cold water and storing it in the refrigerator can help keep it fresh. The cold water helps slow down the ripening process,” concurred Dr Santosh Pandey, naturopath and acupuncturist, Rejua Energy Centre, Mumbai.

According to Dr Pandey, other ways to store avocados properly include:

*Keep unripe avocados at room temperature until they ripen. You can speed up ripening by placing them in a paper bag with a banana or apple.

*Store cut avocados with the pit still in and cover the exposed flesh with plastic wrap, ensuring minimal air exposure.
