Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prince and Princess of Wales, stepped out in Birmingham on Thursday for royal engagements during which they stopped by an Indian street food eatery. Apart from enjoying a variety of Indian cuisine, Prince William also took an unexpected call and took a reservation for two. Not just that, they also tried their hands at making some hot chapatis!
“The Sharma Family don’t just bring authentic Indian street food to the city but do so much in the community too, including their all-female chef team training many better cooks than us…!” Wrote the Prince and Princess of Wales, sharing pictures from their visit.

During their lunch at the Indian Streatery — an independent family-run restaurant that opened in 2017 — the Prince answered a call from a customer who rang up to reserve a table for two. “Do we have a seat for two right now?” William can be seen asking Meena Sharma, head chef and co-owner with her husband Rakesh, in a video shared by Daily Mail‘s Rebecca English on Twitter.

“Half past two?” he suggested to Vinay Aggarwal, the customer. “Does that work for you? No, apparently not right now.” “You’ve got a train at 3? If you could get in at half past two that would be fine. For two people? Maybe a quarter past two, and you could make the train at three?” he added.
Over half an hour later, when Kate and William had left the restaurant, Vinay and his wife Ankita Gulati turned up, completely unaware of the fact they had been talking to Prince William earlier. “I didn’t know at all. That is a surprise. I thought I had made a genuine booking. I didn’t recognise his voice at all,” Vinay was quoted as saying by mirror.co.uk.
The restaurant owner initially thought the Prince was just making the call up. “I was just taken aback. I thought it was actually no one on the line, he was just making it up. He did it really well. But got the address completely wrong!”
The surprising visit also saw Kate and William try their hands at cooking as they made rotis at the eatery. The best one, said Sharma, would be offered a permanent job in the kitchen.
For the outing, while Kate was seen wearing a burgundy Karen Miller trench midi dress featuring long sleeves and a pleated skirt, William looked suave in a black suit with a baby blue button-up, brown shoes, a red handkerchief, and a gold watch.
