Wegovy and Ozempic belong to a new category of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists that slow digestion, helping patients feel full for longer. Ozempic, a prescription medication, has gained significant attention for its role in helping individuals with Type 2 diabetes and those who want to achieve weight loss. However, not everyone may be inclined to use prescription drugs to address weight concerns. Especially when it comes to Ozempic.
The good news is that nature offers a bounty of foods that can mimic some of the effects of Ozempic, aiding in weight management in a more natural way.
Dr L. Sudarshan Reddy, physician, Yashoda Hospitals explained that the FDA-approved Ozempic has Semaglutide as an active ingredient, which induces satiety, suppresses appetite and creates feelings of fullness, and hence works for weight loss.
We explore a list of foods that mimic Ozempic, supporting your weight loss journey. These foods also work similarly by regulating appetite, slowing down digestion, and increasing feelings of fullness.
According to Reddy, macronutrients, peptides, amino acids and short chain fatty acids are the nutrients that trigger GLP-1 secretion naturally and mimic the action of Ozempic.

Dr Ranga Santhosh Kumar, general physician and diabetologist, Yashoda Hospitals noted that foods high in fermentable fibres, like vegetables and whole grains like oats, rye, and barley, foods like beans, peas, and lentils; and pectin in apples, pears, and green bananas feed our gut bacteria and produce short chain fatty acids which can trigger weight loss.
