Shruti Bhardwaj, senior dietician, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital Ahmedabad said that having corn on the cob during the monsoon season can be a delightful and beneficial choice.

“Corn is a nutritious grain that provides essential vitamins and minerals. It contains dietary fibre which aids digestion and promotes a healthy gut. Corn also offers beneficial antioxidants and is a good source of folate, thiamine, and vitamin C. The monsoon season often brings high humidity, and it’s important to stay hydrated. Corn has a high water content, which can contribute to your overall fluid intake. Consuming foods with high water content can help prevent dehydration,” elaborated Bhardwaj.

Corn is a starchy grain, which means it can provide you with a quick burst of energy. It contains carbohydrates that are converted into glucose, providing fuel for your body’s activities. “This can be beneficial, especially if you’re engaging in outdoor activities during the monsoon,” Bhardwaj mentioned.

While having corn on the cob during the monsoon, it’s important to ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness in its preparation and consumption. “Wash the corn thoroughly before cooking and cook it well to eliminate any potential bacterial contamination,” stressed Bhardwaj.
