Managing stress is important for us to deal with everyday issues. While a little bit of stress can help us perform daily activities with motivation, too much of it can hamper both our physical as well as mental health. This is where yoga comes in. It has long been known to be a great stress reliever. As this ancient practice is becoming more popular, more and more individuals are discovering the benefits it brings to tackle stressful lives. Establishing a regular yoga routine is not only stress-relieving but enhances our overall well-being too.

Recently, Malaika Arora, who is known for her fitness game, took to social media to share a simple yet effective yoga asana that will help you calm down in just 30 seconds. As a part of her Move of the Week series, she shared a video with her followers to help them de-stress.

“Hello everyone. Today all I ask of you is 30 seconds to practice this technique with me,” she wrote, adding that it will only take “30 seconds to care for your mental health”, “not worry about anything”, and “to relax your mind and body”.

Malaika also shared the benefits of the yoga asana called the palming pose to help her fans understand its importance. “The palming pose helps relieve stress and feel relaxed. The warmth created in your palms relaxes up to 6 muscles around the eyes, boosts blood flow in this area and reduces eye fatigue. Even if you are in the midst of a hectic morning, afternoon, or evening, it only takes 30 seconds to care for yourself. You can practice this pose for up to 5 minutes,” she explained.

Concurring, Jiggyasa Gupta, a nutrition and fitness coach, FITTR said that the palming pose involves covering your closed eyes with your palms. “This helps reduce eye strain and provides instant stress relief to the complete mind and body. It is a restorative pose, which helps relax the muscles. Moreover, it helps energise the body, improve the sleep pattern and eye vision, stabilise the mind, and increase blood flow. This can be performed by people of any age or fitness level,” she noted.

Here are the steps to perform it, according to the expert:

*Sit on your mat in a comfortable position. You can perform this while sitting, kneeling or lying comfortably.

*Rub the palms against each other.

*When the palms are warm, gently cup them over the closed eyes, allowing the warmth to soothe the eyes, without pressing.
